Rumie is a not-for-profit that delivers low-cost technology to underserved communities around the world.

Rumie is a non-profit that uses innovative technology to provide underserved communities around the world with access to the latest and best learning content available online.

Rumie is a Canadian technology company that operates as a 501(c)(3) non-profit and registered charity. Their goal is to provide free, innovative, and authentic learning to everyone with a mobile device, without any barriers or profit. Their focus is on unleashing the potential of every individual through education.

The Rumie Initiative is unlike other tech-focused companies. As a non-profit its work is focused on sustainable and long-lasting impact instead of stock prices and lead generation. The company, based in Toronto, provides youth across the globe with up-to-date digital educational learning resources through solar-powered tablets and is slowly becoming a leader in the growing global education marketplace.

The company’s award-winning solution  features a variety of custom lessons across a variety of subjects, which include English, science, math, health and more. Unlike other e-education companies, Rumie’s touch-screen tablets are also compatible with Android and OS systems, include 32GB of storage and don’t require an  internet connection to work which ensures students in even the most remote or developing countries can access education on demand.

Its devices are intentionally built to withstand long-term use in some of the world’s harshest environments, which range from the cold arctic in Nunavut to desert-like conditions in South Africa. Rumie also hosts a specially crafted education platform which allows educators to upload pre-approved content for widespread usage amongst learners.

Since launching in 2013, the company has grown to provide more than 35,000 learners  in underserved communities (such as Syrian refugees living in Turkey and Indigenous students living in remote communities in Canada) with digital  educational resources. Most notably it was awarded the Google Impact Challenge award.
