What's involved in the application?

The application should take around 10 minutes to complete. The application asks for your contact info, educational and work background, interests and goals as they relate to SkillHouse.

What are the parameters for acceptance into a course?

To be eligible for SkillHouse, you must be:

  • Available to attend the entirety of the course
  • Able to pay for the course fee and submit your membership agreement by the deadline indicated on your offer email
  • Show dedication and interest in advancing your skill set through SkillHouse
  • Someone who is eager to adapt a startup mentality and keen to work in an environment with the DMZ startup community

What kind of accreditation do I get at the end of the course?

You'll get a DMZ-certified digital certificate which can be displayed and linked on platforms like LinkedIn.

Will I know if I am not accepted to the course?

All applicants will be notified of their application status. If you are not accepted into a course, you may still be considered for the same course but on a different date.

How many sessions are in a course and what is the structure of a typical session?

Each course is 3-5 sessions in length (lasting anywhere between 2-3 hours per session), and often includes a mix of lecture, discussion, and activity.

What is the evaluation criteria for a course (is there an exam or are they assignment-based)?

All courses are pass/fail. All course deliverables must be completed before a course can be successfully passed and a certificate is issued. Deliverables may include assignments, presentations, and quizzes, depending on the course.

What's the difference between DMZ Masterclass and SkillHouse?

Masterclass offers free, pro-guided workshops on a regular basis and gives participants tangible learnings to accelerate their business and professional growth. SkillHouse offers in-depth, 3-5 week courses on a specialized topic, giving participants a more comprehensive learning experience in a certain tech or business vertical. Masterclass does not require an application or course fee to participate.

What if I’m unable to complete a course, will I receive a refund or future credit?

We will look at these situations on a case-by-case basis and consider refunds/course credits for extenuating circumstances.

How many participants get accepted into each course?

Each SkillHouse course accepts a maximum of 15 participants for in-person courses and 30 for virtual courses. Additionally, SkillHouse courses will be offered more frequently beginning Fall 2024, and with more virtual offerings.

How do I get access to the co-working space?

To access the co-working space, which is available for 8 weeks after the start date of the first course, you can use the hot desks on the 6th and 5th floor if necessary,as well as the common space if no events are scheduled. Available Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the space offers amenities such as a games room, meditation room, Wi-Fi, printing services, breakfast, snacks, and Thursday community lunches. Meeting rooms are available for use and must be booked 48 hours in advance.
