Shane Flynn

Shane Flynn is the Senior Director of Ecosystem Development at DMZ, where he leads the strategic partnerships and initiatives that extend DMZ’s impact across Canada and around the world. He collaborates with governments, corporations, academic institutions and innovation organizations to develop programs and opportunities that help entrepreneurs succeed while strengthening the broader innovation ecosystem.

In his role, Shane oversees DMZ’s ecosystem development portfolio, spanning a growing network of global and regional hubs, talent development programs for student entrepreneurs and professionals, sector-specific innovation verticals and strategic partnerships. Through DMZ’s hub-and-spoke model, he works with partners to bring entrepreneurship programming and founder support to communities across Canada and around the world.

Since joining DMZ as a student staff member in 2012, Shane has played a defining role in the organization’s evolution. Over more than a decade, he has helped shape DMZ’s founder experience, including leading the transition from a membership-based model to an equity-based approach that expanded access to entrepreneurial support and strengthened the organization’s ability to serve high-potential startups. He also championed the development of DMZ’s first Indigenous entrepreneurship programming, helping create new opportunities for Indigenous founders through a landmark partnership with The National Aboriginal Capital Corporations Association and the Indigenous Prosperity Foundation.

Having grown alongside DMZ from one of its earliest team members to a senior leadership role, Shane brings a deep understanding of how innovation ecosystems are built, scaled and sustained. His work is driven by a belief that entrepreneurship can transform communities and that strengthening the broader ecosystem creates opportunities for founders everywhere to succeed.

Shane holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the Ted Rogers School of Management at Toronto Metropolitan University.
