Town of Innisfil partners with DMZ to scale startups and increase government procurement
DMZ Innisfil to create a new wave of scalable businesses
TORONTO, May 26, 2020 – The Town of Innisfil has become the most recent municipality to contribute to Canada’s innovation economy during the COVID-19 pandemic by providing a fully virtual startup incubator-accelerator program in partnership with Toronto Metropolitan University’s DMZ.
Available to any technology entrepreneur looking to grow their business, DMZ Innisfil will provide online programming, workshop curriculum, mentorship, a 300+ venture capital network and expedited government procurement for relevant innovations.
“We’re so proud to partner with a world leading tech startup accelerator like the DMZ”, said Mayor Dollin. “With 82% of our Innisfil leaving town for work every day, and over 90% of new jobs being created by businesses less than 5 years old, we’re really focused on creating and supporting the jobs of tomorrow right here in Innisfil.”
With the traditional startup epicentre no longer being exclusive to metropolitan areas, technological innovation in small towns have become increasingly attractive as its economic growth and accelerated government procurement opportunities can no longer be ignored.
The Town of Innisfil is undergoing dramatic changes in transportation, payments and more, which will only increase as DMZ’s data-driven virtual programming hopes to create a new wave of scalable businesses that can update processes within municipal governments.
“Today, location isn’t stopping anyone from starting a business, and it will not stop anyone from receiving support from the DMZ, a leading tech incubator-accelerator program,” said Abdullah Snobar, executive director, DMZ. “We are excited to partner with the Town of Innisfil to develop a new wave of scalable businesses that are proudly outside the traditional metropolitan areas for technology innovation.”
Currently, DMZ Innisfil has eight startups in its virtual incubator program, including Reliant.to, a prop-tech company providing a simplified and automated solution for Toronto Building Compliance and Building Permits.
