About Anthony Lacavera

Anthony, Founder and Chairman of the Globalive Group, is a Canadian-born telecom entrepreneur. Anthony founded Globalive Communications in 1998 where he continues as Chairman. In 2008 Anthony founded the wireless carrier Wind Mobile, where he served as Chairman and CEO from 2008 to 2015. Wind Mobile was acquired by Shaw Communications for $1.3 billion USD in December, 2015. In 2015, Anthony co-founded Globalive XMG where he serves as Chairman, a company focused on the emerging Virtual Reality / Augmented Reality industries. Since 1998, the Globalive Group has co-founded, seeded, financed, operated, and divested of a number of companies in the internet, communications, and technology sectors.

Under Anthony’s leadership, Globalive has received numerous best in business awards, including first ranking on Profit Magazine’s 2004 list of Canada’s 100 fastest growing companies, Canada’s 30 Best Workplaces, and Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies Award for 12 consecutive years. Anthony was named Canada’s CEO of the Year in 2010 by Globe and Mail’s Report on Business Magazine, made Canada’s Top 40 Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 list in 2006 and was publicized as one of the 50 Most Influential Torontonians by Toronto Life Magazine in 2013. Anthony was named an Honorary Fellow of St. Michael’s College at the University of Toronto in 2012. The University of Toronto Engineering School, where Anthony graduated in 1997, welcomed Anthony to the Engineering School Hall of Distinction in 2013. In 2014, Anthony was named one of the Top 50 Executives in Canada by Power; Influence magazine.

Through accelerator programs and various boards including the Next 36 (co-chair), the Hatchery Project, the Creative Destruction Lab (co-founder of the lab), OneEleven, and MaRS, Anthony supports young entrepreneurs with financing and mentorship, is active on numerous boards and advisory groups, and speaks regularly to students about entrepreneurship. Anthony has served on a variety of charitable boards focused on university fundraising and entrepreneur advisory boards, as well as several public company boards.

In 2007, Anthony founded the SHAMBA foundation, a unique charity that assists other charities with fundraising and organizational efforts. The SHAMBA foundation raised nearly $1M for a variety of social and charitable causes. Anthony is a founding supporter of the Art Gallery of Ontario’s Gallery Italia. Anthony was honoured as Commendatore in the Order of the Star of Italy for his contribution to the Italian community abroad.

Anthony is a regular contributor on Bloomberg Television on broad economic issues, technology, and innovation, and is co-hosting a series on Innovation on Bloomberg North.

In support of theatre in New York and London, Anthony has produced and co-produced several successful theatre productions, including the Laurence Olivier award winning 2010 production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Anthony is a regular commentator on Bloomberg TV in Canada on a wide range of subjects.
