Laura understands that Uber’s impact on society goes beyond technology. While Uber provides a flexible earning opportunity, she knows that app-based workers need benefits. She was the driving force behind Uber’s agreement with UFCW Canada. Now over 100,000 workers on Uber have access to strong representation. Uber and UFCW Canada are also pressing governments to create industry-wide standards that protect flexibility while introducing new benefits, including a 120% minimum earning standard, a benefits fund, notice of termination, healthy and safety protections and access to workers’ rights.

What are your hopes for the next generation of women in tech?
The next generation of women in tech will experience the most diverse, equitable, and welcoming eco-system yet - and continue to push for even better.

What’s the greatest piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Get comfortable being uncomfortable. It's the only way to grow. Old ways rarely open new doors.
