Nadir began his communications career more than 30 years ago and joined Rogers Communications in August 2000. He was appointed President and CEO of Rogers Wireless in 2001 and was appointed President and COO of Rogers Communications Group in 2005
Nadir is the former President and CEO of Rogers Communications Inc., a company listed on the TSX and NYSE having retired in December 2013. With a market cap of over $23 billion, Rogers’ generates revenues of over $12 billion and delivers operating profits of over $4.5 billion. Rogers’ annual pre-tax free cash flow is approximately $2 billion. Rogers Communications is a diversified communications and media company with the largest wireless and cable business in Canada and leading media and sports brands.
Nadir began his communications career more than 30 years ago and joined Rogers Communications in August 2000. He was appointed President and CEO of Rogers Wireless in 2001 and was appointed President and COO of Rogers Communications Group in 2005. He was unanimously appointed by the RCI Board of Directors to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of Rogers Communications in March 2009 succeeding the late company founder Ted Rogers.
Nadir is a focused, results driven executive who led Rogers Communications through an extraordinary time of change in the company’s 50-year history as well as the history of the industry. He and the executive team focused on strengthening the company’s core business while building future growth platforms by investing in machine to machine, mobile video, mobile wallet and strategic sports assets.
In the four years since becoming CEO, the company delivered a Total Shareholder Return of 105% representing a CAGR of 19.6%. Under his leadership, the company became the largest wireless carrier in Canada through the Microcell acquisition, delivered best-in-class cable and wireless margins and significantly strengthened its balance sheet. He remains committed to the company’s legacy as the first to market leader with solutions that benefit Canadians and make Canada stronger.
Nadir has a rich background, and a strong passion for making a difference in the community. He moved to Canada from East Africa in 1971 and has appreciated the significant opportunities afforded to him and his family. He in turn looks to contribute to advancing Canada’s digital agenda through initiatives like Ryerson’s DMZ and the Next 36, a unique program that transforms Canada’s most promising students into successful entrepreneurs. Nadir is the co-founder and chair of Scale Up Ventures and serves as the distinguished CEO in Residence at Toronto Metropolitan University. His community engagement ranges from business to the arts and through to development initiatives globally. He continues to be an active member of Young Presidents’ Organization / World Presidents’ Organization and the Chief Executives Organization.
Nadir was named by Bloomberg as one of the world’s most successful immigrants and in October 2013 he was honoured by the UN Association in Canada at their 2013 Global Citizens Dinner.
He serves on the Board of TD Bank Financial Group and is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alignvest Management Corporation and sits on the Board of Alignvest Acquisition Corporation. Nadir is the chair of Ryerson Futures Inc. He also serves on the Board of Tennis Canada, Next 36 and Brookfield Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
Nadir graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He earned his C.A. designation in 1981 and was awarded his FCA designation in 2010.
