Shany Raitsin

As a Startup Legal Strategist, Shany supports startups at DMZ with legal services, primarily on intellectual property law.

Prior to attending Lincoln Alexander as a law student, Shany obtained her BA in English with a minor in Philosophy at Toronto Metropolitan University, where she founded a creative writing club on campus. Upon acceptance to law school, Shany created an online server for law school applicants to connect with current students and alumni so that no applicant would have to feel alone through the application process. The server amassed over 1,000 members and assisted dozens in their journeys to law school.

Shany worked for over 2 years as the Marketing Director for a Global Legal Resourcing company and found herself inspired by the forward-thinking world of New Law and Legal Tech. Working for a successful, fast-paced startup is what brought her to DMZ, where she hopes to further nurture her love for trademark and copyright law and assisting startups in their growth.

Best concert you’ve been to?
Cigarettes After S*x. Long story short, they’re my favourite band, and the lead singer felt bad that I couldn't get a ticket, offered me free VIP entry and I got to meet them afterwards!

How do you relax?
Scented candles, a good book, and YouTube ambience videos.

Caution: will cry if shown a fat cat.
